anyone else out there who experiences intense anxiety just from riding in a car?
It often freaks me out and puts me in a bad mood. I am constanly on edge...not so bad on long road trips..but in city traffic it is enough to give me a heart attack.

Wed, March 14, 2007 - 10:18 AMYeah, if I get into a car that turns onto the freeway, forget it! I usually have to remind myself to relax and breathe. Really, even if you're going to get in an accident, it's supposedly the relaxed ones who get injured less ;).

Had to almost drink myself to oblivion when the family went to Chicago one year--all those concrete dividers and semis everywhere. Then, about 2 years ago I was in a wreck where our car was totaled, just got a cracked knee, but it takes all of my courage sometimes to ride in the passenger seat just to go to the local store and back--10 miles. My husband wants to get an RV and travel. That is my version of hell on earth.

Sun, March 2, 2008 - 12:27 PMI do, too. No matter who is driving. Highways here in the west where there is little traffic are all right most of the time if I'm a passenger, but I feel the same nerve-wracking fear when in busy traffic or parking lots.

I love looking at the tangle of vegetation zipping by in a blur, because I'm not driving and I don't have to look at the road. One of my favorite things is when cars on the access road are going the same direction, and they match the speed on the highway... I really do love that.

Tue, May 13, 2008 - 8:54 PMHe he, my husband laughs at me because I am constantly flinching and using my imaginary passenger side brakes. I've been in several wrecks, though, so I may be a little on the paranoid side. Long trips are better for some reason, highway driving I guess, but I can NEVER sleep in a moving vehicle, no matter how long the trip. I think my driving/riding anxiety is pretty over the edge; it can't be healthy to have so much anxiety, but that's just how it is.
